I hate horses...

Apparently some horse named Barbaro died today after an 'epic' and 'heroic' struggle to overcome injuries caused by the very owners who wanted to save it. People are getting very bent out of shape about it, and grieving, planning elaborate funerals (one guy suggested it should be buried on the White House grounds) for it, and crying over this 'tragic' loss (on the same day 2 more US soldiers were killed in Iraq , by the way). Oh yes, it seemed that everyone loved this horse.

I, on the other hand, do not care, because it is a fucking horse...
recording equipment fun

Talked to the guys at Watermelon today, and got an estimate on a mixer, software, and mics. Is as follows:

12 input firewire helixboard plus software 300
audio technica drum mics (3 snare/tom, 2 overhead, 1 kick) 300
audio technica 2020 vocal mic 100
stands/cables- around 160
total 860

According to the guy I talked to, it should be a pretty sweet rig all and all, and I'm already excited about it. I talked to timmy about him going in with me at least on the board, what with his interest in sound and its related equipment. I figure with that, as well as stretching buying everything over the next couple months (like 200-300 dollars a month) I can make it much more affordable. Now all I need is time to rehearse with people yes. Until then, expiremental artgrind rides again!

So it looks like I have the house to myself now, as it appears that Jeremy, Karlee and Tim have all moved out early. What will I do with this freedom!? Pack. Thats what I'm going to do: Pack.

Speaking of which, I'll be moving next weekend, hopefully starting on friday, continuing on before silent throne on saturday, and then finishing up hopefully monday or tuesday. Any help would be appreciated, and I shall reward such assistance with some pizza or something, and lets be honest: who doesn't love Pizzas!? Communists, thats who. Also if anyone had a trukk, that would be SUPER hot (Eric???) If not, We may be playing the 'abandon Max's Furniture by the side of the road and run away laughing' game.

So, yeah, if you wouldn't mind helping just let me know, and I will shower you with fabulous prizes.

Got another Tattoo yesterday, bringing the count up to 3 (or one big one done over three sessions if you want to get picky.) Its pretty fucking awesome, I'm happy with it. It's hard to describe, and the closest word I can think of for it is Tendrils. It also includes my first edge Tattoo (three X's, fairly plain) Which Martin took as a sign that I was destined to be an Alchoholic by age 22. I'll show him...

A letter to the guy sitting next to me in The Omen (not Ben)

Dear Sir.

While I appreciate the fact that your daughter has just gotten her cast off (by the way, congratulations), I do not wish to overhear you discussing this on the phone, in the middle of the fucking movie. I would also like to inform you that the color red will be appearing on screen from time to time throughout the movie, and you should feel free to excitedly point this out to your daughter everytime the goddamn color shows up. Is it coincidence, or symbolism, I don't know, but shut the fuck up. Also, I realize that the omen is a remake of an older movie, and call me a child of more recent times, but I haven't seen it before, and would find it super if you'd stop explaining the plot to aforementioned daughter before the movie has started.
Thanks,
Max

P.S. I hate you.

Well, apparently somehow August magically is another word for June. Magically. Anyway, our landlord fucked us, and we need to get out 2 months earlier (June 20th) than expected so here's the deal: I probably have a place I can go, but I need room to store stuff. I have a couple of pieces of furniture, plus boxes of stuff. Here's the big stuff:

Bed
Desk
Chest of Drawers (not actually that big, but still...)
Bookshelf
variable number of boxes of other stuff
oh, and drums, but I'm going to try and take those with me where I go

I will also need help moving from those possessing of automotive transportation, and in general. I will reward those who help with fud.

I'll also need boxes, in order to put my worldly goods into them

I'm also going to be trying to purge some of my stuff, in order to facilitate moving, so if you're over, and want some crap, speak up and ye might recieve.

Gah, third edit is a charm

"Those who preach the nonsense about everlasting peace do not understand the life of the Aryan race, the Aryans are before all brave. The have always been men enough to protect by the sword what they had won by the intellect"
Heinrich von Treitschke

like, 30 years before the Nazi's got going.

Oh, also:

The furtherance of an everlasting peace is fundamentally reactionary. He sees that to banish war from history would be to banish all progress and become. It is only the periods of exhaustion, weariness, and mental stagnation that have with the dream of everlasting peace... The living God will see to it that war returns again and again as a terrible medicine for humanity."

fuck!

my terrible secret shame...

is that I write psuedo-fan fiction for characters I play, and occasionally post them on the internet. See what sleep depration and exaustion from work can do to my writing. As usual, comments are welcome, or not, I want a puppy!:

I run for what feels like hours when I stop seeing red, and my legs collapse under me. I fall. Gasping and sobbing I fall to my knees. Blind rage and terror give way to rational fear. It knew, it knew. The white wolf saw what I was. He smelled it, he smelled my soul, and he knew. I can’t breathe now, and still I can’t stop sobbing. In Amn, they burn sorcerers at the stake. 14 years, and miles away, I still remember this. The image is seared in my mind, and as long as I live, I can never forget it. I have tried to push it aside, but always it returns, at night in my sleep, I recall it once more. The mob dragged father from our home and set him alight in the street. I remember he smiled at me as he burned. Was it because I still lived, or because the flames lifted a burden from him? I nearly choke as the name passes through me: Krisnitharinidre, The Black Flame.

Oh gods, he knew, he knew what we were, the blood of his forefathers that he passed to me, he knew, and the fire freed him from the burden, the burden that is mine to bear now. I realize that my sobs have turned to screams. The name isn’t mine, but it is, it is. I’m still gasping for air, and the fibers of my life are coming unraveled. I don’t know my self, how can they know me, how can I know myself? My friends, my comrades, can they trust me?

No, you have already betrayed them

No, I, how..?

You traded words with the white one, baited him, tested his wraith and he slaughtered them. He killed them all, and you ran, you left them there, left them to die.

I didn’t mean to, I didn’t want to, I only tried…

That’s right, you only tried. Your whole life you’ve tried, tried to shut me out, tried to silence my voice. Your petty vices, gambling, drinking, the ambivalence of your actions. You tried not to care; you tried not to get attached to anything, to care about your life. But you do care, Morn of Amn, the more you try not to, the more you do. Your friends, your home. Merely illusions, but beautiful illusions, and you loved them. You love life Morn, you loved it, and that love smothered my ire, shut out my attentions. But now you’ve wrecked all you loved, killed it with your stupidity…

No, I didn’t, I didn’t…

Yes, yes you did, Morn, do you need to see it again? Shall I show you again?

No, please, don’t I don’t need to see it again

Yes you do, Morn, see again what your pride and pretension have wrought

And it shows me, and I see it all again. I feel Amman’s hand grip me even as he dies, I see the light leave his eyes. I hear Bree as the Wargs tear her to the ground. Ardan, Niakhra, I watch them die. Oh Gods, I can’t breathe, Amman, Ardan, Duriel, Father, Bree. Bree…

All gone away now Morn, all gone away…except you. Cry now, Morn, because there won't be time for that later

All gone, all dead…

Its laugh scrapes like a knife on my rib

Who are you?

Who? Morn. I am you, Morn, I am you…

The Black Flame

The Black Flame

What is left now, what do I have now?

Nothing, Nothing but revenge. Destroy those who did this to you, Destroy them, Black Flame. Annihilate them, Black flame. Call down your birthright, and be their ruin, Black Flame. Black Flame, Black Flame...

The words echo in my mind over and over again.

Theblackflametheblackflametheblackflametheblackflametheblackflame Theblackflametheblackflametheblackflametheblackflametheblackflame Theblackflametheblackflametheblackflametheblackflametheblackflame Theblackflametheblackflametheblackflametheblackflametheblackflame Theblackflametheblackflametheblackflametheblackflametheblackflame

The Black Flame.

The feeling is extraordinary, I can almost feel my heart harden as I pull myself to my feet, my hands twisted into the claws. My drive is simple: I will hurt those who hurt me. I will destroy those who would destroy those near to me. My smile is grim, and devoid of warmth.

Vengeance.
Vengeance.

I think sleep now.
its memetacular!

1. What does your Livejournal name mean?
well, given my loathing for church and state, one could consider me to have anarchistic tendencies (that, and I thought anarchy was reaaaaally cool in junior high.) The lad part is a reflection on my British ancestory, thus: anarchylad.

2. Elaborate on your default photo?
its the cover art for an album by an obscure-esque hardcore band called Bread and Circuits. The name is, I believe a play on the term Bread and Circuses. Now, for those of you who aren't history buffs, the term Bread and Circuses describes what Roman politicians and leaders used to control public opinion. 2000 odd years later, little has changed...

3. Make up a question.
why are we here?

4. What's your current relationship status?
dating the wonderful [info]emilia_romagna

5. What EXACTLY are you wearing right now?
sneakers, jeans, despised icon shirt

6. What is your current problem?
Having way to much writing to do

7. What do you love most?
Family, Friends (except you Tim!), Loved ones, music (the insane speed of the blast beat, the chugchuggachug of a breakdown...)

8. What makes you most happy?
breakdowns, blastbeats, concerts, puppies

9. Are you musically inclined?
I play drums, and I'm getting better at it rapidly

10. If you could go back in time, and change something, what would you change?
I would go back, and warn myself not to pay money to see Alien Vs. Predator, that movie SUCKED! For that matter, I'd warn myself not to see pearl harbor either

11. If you MUST be an animal for ONE day, what would you be?
A Dog, they always seem to enjoy themselves

12. Ever have a near death experience?
Nope, but I did have to sit through a stupid lecture on how near death experiences were PROOF OF THE AFTERLIFE!!!!

13. Name an obvious quality you have.
bitter, often nasty sarcasm. I get it from my dad. Its often shocking how mean we can be to eachother

14. What's the name of the song that's stuck in your head right now?
Fixiated on Plastics by The Red Chord

15. Who did you cut and paste this from?
[info]hoobajoo

16. Name someone with the same birthday as you.
my ex.

17. Have you ever vandalized someone's private property?
yes, the counter at steven's work will never be the same (I'll call you baby!)

18. Have you ever been in a fight?
once, it was a very unskilled affair that ended quickly, and had no clear outcome. I can't remember why it started

19. Have you ever sung in front of a large audience?
Nein!

20. What is the first thing you notice about the opposite/same sex?
the way their dressed usually jumps out at me first, but upon the engagement in conversation, usually humor, intelligence and confidence. I am not patient at all, and have little tolerance for idiots.

21. What do you usually order from Starbucks?
nothing, I hate starbucks

24. Has anyone ever said you looked like a celebrity?
Not that I can remember, I have from time to time claimed to be Joe Peschi though...

25. Do you still watch kiddy movies or TV shows?
No, because I'm not a child

26. Did you have braces?
yes, oh how I hated them. I had them for three years, and in the end they took them off, but then said they wanted to do more. I said no

27. Are you comfortable with your height?
yeah, sure, why not

28. What is the most romantic thing someone has ever done for you?
This, I shall not share

29. Do you speak any other languages?
I can speak German ok, its been a while since I've had much pratice

30. Do you have a crush on someone on your livejournal?
yes, [info]emilia_romagna
section from an essay, read and be enlightened

Evolution challenged this by stating that humanity, like any other animal, had evolved from a lesser state over a vast period of time, and was not necessarily created by any god. It said, essentially, that humanity was no different than any other animal. This concept frightened and angered people, and to this day “there are still many people who experience a sense of cosmic despair when confronted by the idea that life on earth is the outcome of an unsupervised process of chance and necessity.” (Miller, Van Loon 174) Darwin had, with his theories, effectively forced humanity to rethink its origins, and its position in the universe.

Freud wanted to fuck his mother.

It is in this sense that we can see that Darwin was totally more awesome than Freud, because frankly, sexing up your mother is disgusting. This fact is shown through the following points: A) Freud wanted to get his freak on with his mom and B) Darwin probably didn’t. It is in this way that we see the contributions of the two men. Darwin removed humanity from its traditional place in the universe, and Freud wanted to slip his mom the meat, and said everyone else did as well. But C'mon, seriously, who wants to fuck their mom (who isn't, obviously, sigmund freud)? Oh, also, Freud did a ton of Coke.

an odd request

I have tons of writing to do for my class, and I was thinking about posting some of it so that anyone who was nice enough, or so inclined, could read/edit/give comments/comedy option it. I'd be really appreciative.

By the Latter part of the 1790’s, Revolutionary France had degraded into chaos. Between the Jacobin perpetrated reign of terror, invasion by foreign monarchist powers, and the insurrection in the Vendee region, the French Republic teetered on the brink of collapse. It was during this state of affairs that the charismatic and ambitious general Napoleon Bonaparte, with the aid of conspirators, staged a Coup, seizing control of the republic, and within a short while consolidating power within himself. A supporter of the reforms the revolution had made, Napoleon instituted a singular system of laws, opened access to government positions based on talent, and refused to acknowledge the traditional privileges of the aristocracy. The democratic ideals of the Revolution, however, finally died when Napoleon crowned himself emperor in 1804. As an authoritarian military dictator, Napoleon claimed a divine right to rule, restored the Catholic Church, a longtime enemy of the Revolutionary regime, and restricted political freedom, and freedom of speech.
With his seizure of power, Napoleon enacted reforms that addressed the grievances presented by the third estate in the nascent stages of the French Revolution. Under Napoleon, the irrational legal and tax codes, which varied according to region in pre-Revolutionary France, were abolished and replaced with a singular national system: the Napoleonic Code. Napoleon’s laws embodied a spirit of meritocracy that the early revolutionaries sought, as shown in a letter to Jerome Napoleon, the ruler of the recently conquered Westphalia: “What German opinion impatiently demands is that men of no rank, but of marked ability, shall have an equal claim upon your favour and your employment.” (Perry 85) Napoleon again explains the rationality of his code when he said about his ruling of Westphalia “what people will want to return under the arbitrary Prussian rule, once it has tasted the benefits of a wise and liberal administration.” (Perry 85) Napoleon’s implementation of a single legal code, based on rationality and merit, even in conquered territories show his devotion to the Revolutionary ideal of a system based on merit.
Beyond setting up a system based on merit, the Napoleonic codes also drew influence from some of the egalitarian ideals of the Revolution. With the introduction of the Napoleonic Code, men were granted an equality under the law that the Revolution had aspired to. Napoleon reflected on this in his letter to Jerome Napoleon with “your throne will never be firmly established except upon the trust and affection of the common people.” (Perry 85) Napoleon again explained the equality that the Napoleonic code espoused when he wrote, “I want your subjects to enjoy a degree of liberty, equality, and prosperity hitherto unknown to the German people.” (Perry 85) Napoleon again outlined the advantages of his legal system when he wrote “the benefits of the Code Napoleon, public trial, and the introduction of juries will be the leading features of your government.” (Perry 85) It is through the focus of his legal code on equality and justice that Napoleon, in some aspects enacted the Revolutionary ideals of liberty, equality, and fraternity.
In addition to the access and equality the Napoleonic Code granted, it also ended the traditional rule of the aristocracy in France, and in the territories conquered by Napoleon. This goal, influenced as it was by the early goals of the French Revolution is reflected best when Napoleon, again to Jerome Napoleon, wrote: “In Germany, as in France, Italy, and Spain, people long for equality and liberalism. I have been managing the affairs of Europe long enough now to know that the burden of the privileged classes was resented everywhere.” (Perry 85) Napoleon again displays this attitude when he counsels Jerome to “rule constitutionally. Even if reason, and the enlightenment of the age, were not sufficient cause, it would be good policy for one in your position; and you will find that the backing of public opinion gives you a great natural advantage over the absolute Kings who are your neighbors.” (Perry 85) With this advice, Napoleon stresses the importance of weakening the privileged classes, and standing in opposition to the neighboring absolutist monarchs that support them.
In stark contrast to this, however, stands the fact that Napoleon destroyed the democratic ideals of the French Revolution. Although all men were effectively equal under the law, they could not participate in or determine the course of the government under Napoleon’s rule. To this effect, Napoleon once remarked, “my mistress is power, I have done too much to conquer her to let her be snatched away from me,” (Perry 83) displaying a very undemocratic mindset. In accordance with this, Napoleon cracked down on freedom of speech, targeting journals in specific, ordering, “repress the journals a little; make them produce wholesome articles. I want you to write to the editors of the… newspapers that are most widely read in order to let them know that the time is not far away when, seeing that they are no longer of service to me, I shall suppress them along with all the others.” (Perry 84) Napoleon expressed this desire to suppress political freedom when he said, “Tell them that the… Revolution is over, and that there is now only one party in France; that I shall never allow the newspapers to say anything contrary to my interests,” (Perry 84) as well as when he remarked “one fine day somebody will shut their [journals] mouths.” (Perry 84) These actions and comments reveal that Napoleon was entirely uninterested in protecting political freedom, or the democratic aims and ideals of the early Revolution.
Beyond restricting political freedom, Napoleon also restored the Catholic Church, a traditional enemy of the Revolution, to its former position. This is best shown by a piece of writing about Napoleon, which stated “it is he whom God has raised up… to re-establish the public worship of the holy religion of our fathers and to be the protector of it.” (Perry 84) In return for the restoration, Napoleon “[Became] the anointed of the Lord through the consecration which he received from the sovereign pontiff, head of the universal church.” (Perry 84) Napoleon did not restore the Church out of any sense of piety, but rather to gain an ally in his bid for power. However, such an action would be an affront to the Revolutionary sentiment of previous years.
Not only did Napoleon seize absolute power in France, he also claimed a divine mandate to rule in the tradition of earlier absolutist monarchs. This idea is reflected in the Imperial Catechism, which was taught in French schools. Several parts of the catechism refer directly to Napoleon being anointed by God, such as “Christians owe to the princes who govern them, and we on in particular to Napoleon I, our Emperor, love, respect, obedience, fidelity, military service.” (Perry 83) The catechism continues with “to honor and to serve our Emperor is then to honor and serve God himself.” (Perry 84) Beyond stating that to serve Napoleon is to serve god, the catechism also states that to resist Napoleon is to sin, saying that it “would e resisting the order established by God himself and would render themselves worthy of eternal damnation.” (Perry 84) Such an attitude, and claim of a divine mandate to rule stands in stark contrast to the ideology of the French Revolution.
The legal and social reforms Napoleon made are a great irony when juxtaposed over the tyrannical nature of his rule. Although Napoleon made advances in the name of the enlightened spirit of the Revolution, his rule stood contrary to it. Through Napoleon’s reign, some of the goals and dreams of the early Revolution were finally achieved. However, when Napoleon crowned himself Emperor of the French, it was the deathblow for the first Republic of France.
Consumed by your Poison

I had my first drum lesson from John Chengary (he teaches at Watermelon), and he's a bit weird, but I was really impressed. I had two issues going into the fist lesson. 1) If he could help me play what I wanted to play (specifically, extreme metal i.e. really fast) and 2) wether or not I could afford to start taking lessons. He addressed both those things almost immediately. For one, he is one of the fastest drummers I have ever heard, and he gave me a student discount (88 dollars a month). He also gave me a few basic pointers, and corrected some aggergious errors I was making in my playing technique. Its going to be irritating unlearned 6 months or errors brought on by teaching myself, but my playing should be better for it. I wasn't able to practice yesterday, but I've practiced for about an hours so far today, and plan on doing more. This is all dandy, because for the first time, I feel like I have the capability to become a really good drummer. Flo Mournier? Get the fuck out.

As an interesting side note, when I was practicing today, a guy knocked on our door, and I thought 'oh fuck, the jig is up!' Turns out it was the guy who does the landscaping in the area, and he told me that he's been playing drums for 20 years or so, and would be happy to give me some pointers some time. I just might have to take him up on his offer.

My throat hurts, and I have a ton of writing to do for my class next week, and blah, blah blah complaining is done.

I would also like to say this: Larry the Cable Guy is the least funny human being alive, bar none.

Thank you
